Excalibur Quick-Start

Excalibur is an application that allows you to look through your LaTeX or TeX document for misspellings without the problems of commands being read as words. It is a part of the automatic installation process.

This page is for getting you started with Excalibur, not a full introduction. For a full introduction, please refer to the electronic manual. If you have problems getting started, or would like to find out more information, please read the electronic manual that comes with it.

Quick Start

To open Excalibur, go into your Textures folder, then into the Tools folder, then into "Excalibur 2.5.1(spellcheck)". Double-click on the application "Excalibur". You will be greeted with a message with which document you want to spell check.

Select the document that you want to spell check. As an example, let's choose "ben.latex.notes.tex". Then you will see the document viewer, which looks like the following:

LaTeX Options

Make sure that the options are set to do LaTeX Command Parsing. Do this by going into the Options menu and selecting "LaTeX...", like so:

Next, make sure that the command parsing is turned on. For a basic template, make your LaTeX options dialog box look like this:

and click OK. There are several other options to choose from, and it is wise to look through those options to see what you would like. For more information on those different options, please look at the manual.

Spell Checking

Now to start spell-checking. Click the Start button.

Click on the Ignore button for words that are spelled correctly. When you encounter a word that is misspelled, click on Suggest for Excalibur to give you a list of suggestions, then click Change when you have selected one.
