Installing Textures by hand
To install Textures without using the installer:
- Drag the folder called "Textures" from the CD to your hard drive.
This will take a while, as it's copying a thousand-some files over. You'll get some extra stuff this way (e.g. both versions of LaTeX, old and new), but you can always delete it later.
- Install the fonts:
- open the folder called "System Fonts" on the CD.
- open the folder called "Computer Modern."
- Drag the two suitcases inside ("CM/PS Screen Fonts" and "Latex Screen Fonts") into the folder called "Fonts" inside the System folder on your hard drive.
- open the folder called "CM/PS + LaTeX PostScript Fonts"
- Select all the items inside (command-a, or "Select All" from the Edit menu) and drag them into the folder called "Fonts" inside the System folder on your hard drive.
OK, that's the basic computer modern set. The procedure for the AMS fonts is almost the same:
- open the folder called "System Fonts" on the CD.
- open the folder called "AMS Fonts"
- Drag the two suitcases inside ("AMS/PS Screen Fonts" and "Cyrillic Screen Fonts") into the folder called "Fonts" inside the System folder on your hard drive.
- open the folder called "AMS+Cyrillic PostScript Fonts"
- Select all the items inside (command-a, or "Select All" from the Edit menu) and drag them into the folder called "Fonts" inside the System folder on your hard drive.
That's it! You've installed Textures and the complete CM and AMS font sets. This set of procedures is basically what the installer would have done for you --- not so hard, eh?
There are piles of extra stuff on the CD --- if you want to use it you can use it off the CD or you could copy the files over to your hard drive and play with them there.
If you'd like to hide the fonts from your other applications, we've provided a custom install option to do this. However, you're probably reading this becasue the installer isn't working right, so I've put the readme files for hiding the fonts on our ftp server.
