How to Make a PDF document
There are several ways to make PDF documents. The best way is to obtain Adobe Distiller. Alternate ways of creating PDF documents will be discussed at the bottom of this page.
USING ADOBE DISTILLER:
You have two ways of making a PDF file using Adobe Distiller. You can either make it directly, or print to a Postscript file and use Distiller on it. Here are the steps for the first method with a LaserWriter 8.5.1 driver (you do not need a LaserWriter to do this, just the driver, which comes with your Macintosh System Software):
- Select your typeset window that you want to print. (If Flash mode is turned off and you have the source (editing) window open, it will print your source code.)
- Go to the print menu.
- Then go to the pop-up menu that says "General" and select "Save As File menu".
- Select "Adobe Acrobat PDF" from the Format pop-up menu.
- Select "File" from the "Destination" pop-up menu.
- Choose to embed all the fonts that your Textures document needs into the PDF document, and only uses the characters from that font that you want to use.
- (optional) Click the "Save Settings" button to always print to a PDF file when you want to print to a file (instead of a PostScript file).
- Click the Save button.
- Save where you want your PDF file to go.
If an error occurs, then it will spit out an error log in place of your PDF file. It will contain a list of all the errors that it had with the PostScript file.
ALTERNATE METHODS:
Other Adobe products can also be used to create PDF files from a Textures document.
To turn a Textures document into a pdf file using Adobe Illustrator, go to the Textures DVI window, and save as an Illustrator document. Open this document in Illustrator, and save it as a PDF file.
Adobe Acrobat 4.0 also can be used to create PDF documents. One can instructions on how to do this inside of the Adobe Acrobat application; open Adobe Acrobat, select "Online Services" in the File menu, and select "Create Adobe PDF". This will bring up a web page with instructions on how to proceed.
Though we recommend using Adobe products when creating PDF files, non-Adobe software can also be used. A description/commentary on some of these options can be found here.
