Textures 2.1 runs on all Macintosh models (including G3 and G4 models) and is "fat binary"---it will run on older 68K Mac's. Synchronicity, Follow Focus and Error Log marks require a Power Macintosh.
Memory requirements vary with the document size and the format used within Textures. Small, Plain TeX documents will run with as little as 1400K RAM; however, other formats won't even run with this partition. In particular, the LaTeX2e format requires Textures to have a 6.5MB partition. You'll need about 16 MB of disk storage for the full Textures package. (Just Textures with Plain TeX is 1.6 Mb, but we give you alot more since memory is cheap these days.) To increase the memory of Textures, please see our step-by-step pages on how to increase the memory.
Textures 1.8 users, and up, should use System 7.0 or later. Systems 7.5 through 8.6 present no problem, but the optional QuickDraw/GX package available with Systems 7.5 through 8.0 is incompatible with Textures.
You'll need the Adobe Type Manager, from Adobe Systems. ATM renders the screen display and makes it possible to print to a non-PostScript printer. Use version 2.0.3 or later with System 7.0, version 3.0 or later with System 7.1, version 3.6 or later with System 7.5, 4.0 with System 8 through 8.6, and 4.5.2 for System 9. More details about ATM are available from the technical support web pages.
Works with all Apple printers and all third-party printers designed for the Macintosh---inkjet, laser, impact printers, and photo-typesetters. Also compatible with pseudo-printers, such as fax modems.Certain printer drivers have bugs which can cause Textures problems. Among these, the printer drivers of the Epson 740, the Stylewriter II, and some HP printers have bugs which can manifest during printing.
Textures is full standard TeX 3.14159, compatible with all TeX systems, LaTeX2e, and all standard TeX formats.
Uses PostScript, TrueType, and bitmap fonts. Blue Sky produces a number of optional PostScript Font sets for use with Classic Textures. The Adobe Type Manager is required for PostScript fonts and Classic Textures.
Imports graphics through copy/paste, PICT, and EPSF files. Macros for including EPSF files are distributed in the Classic Textures package. They are also available on our ftp server. Exports finished pages via copy/paste and Illustrator/EPSF format or directly to PostScript through Apple's LaserWriter driver.
The "ICeTEe" extension can cause synchronicity to malfunction and produce the error "not a URL" when one command clicks instead of taking one to the appropriate place in the other window. Disable this extension with your extension manager to resolve this.
Opening Textures with Action Menus has been reported to cause your computer to crash. If you've installed Action Menus, do not try to open Textures through these menus or use the Action Menus installer to uninstall the software.
Power Disk Lock has been reported to cause your computer to crash if you are running Textures when Power Disk Lock kicks in. Disable Power Disk Lock while using Textures.
Font problems may arise is you're using FontAgent, Font Reserve, or ATM 4.5.2 Deluxe (though no complaints have been raised about the lite version of ATM 4.5.2). Use these with due caution.
