My Textures Doesn't Work!

Well, that's a little too general. Let's try to narrow it down step by step. Each step helps check that another piece of the Textures system works, from the simplest (just being able to run it at all!) to the most complex. How far can you get?

This is a flowchart model. Start with #1, and progress through until something goes wrong.

1. Textures (and/or LaTeX) is successfully installed on my Mac. If it's properly installed it should look something like this picture.
Yes. Move on to the next step.
No --- I need installation help.

2. Textures launches and runs successfully on my Mac. This means that double-clicking Textures launches it and opens a new untitled window without crashing, and it typesets in PlainTeX without crashing. Typesets in Plain TeX? Try this example.
Yes. Move on to the next step.
No --- I need crash help.

3. Textures can typeset that Plain example, and can typeset the simple LaTeX example. To test this, you need try the example.
Yes. Move on to the next step.
No --- I need LaTeX help.

4. Plain and LaTeX work fine, and so do AMS-LaTeX and the AMS fonts.
Yes, or I don't care, I don't use AMS-LaTeX or the AMS fonts. Move on to the next step.
No --- I need AMS help.

5. Textures can typeset the Plain and LaTeX examples, and the typeset window looks correct --- the fonts are smooth, not blocky.
Yes. Move on to the next step.
No --- I need Fonts help.

6. Okay, I can typeset, it looks fine in the typeset window, and I get good results when I print it.
Yes. Move on to the next step.
No --- I need printing help.

7. Typesetting and printing work fine, and I can even include EPS and PICT graphics files in my document.
Yes. Move on to the next step.
No --- I need graphics help.

8. Well, I can typeset, view relatively normal documents, print them and include pictures in them. But I have a question about
  • PostScript separations
  • unorthodox fonts
  • some other problems not covered here.
Please write to help and your question will probably be answered in a day or two. Remember that we're here to help get your Textures system running, but we can't help with (La)TeX programming.
